It would certainly be nice to have your own steam shower, where you can spend a few relaxing and soothing minutes before going to bed. While this type of shower does not need much water to produce steam, it can increase your electric bill when used frequently. Furthermore, you have to make sure your steam shower is designed properly. Otherwise, you might not be able to maximize its benefits, and it might even be more of a nuisance than an advantage to you.

Enclosed and Insulated Shower Space
The shower should be enclosed and insulated so that the steam remains in place. It’s also best to use tile, marble or other non-porous materials in constructing your steam shower. Additionally, make sure to install a water-tight shower drain and floor drain.
Seating
Include comfortable seating in your bathroom remodeling plans. You can opt for built-in seating or fold-up seats, depending on your needs or the space you have. Fold-up seats are ideal for smaller showers as they allow you to maximize the shower space. But if space isn’t an issue, you can go with a tiled bench installed diagonally in a corner or along a wall opposite the steam head.
Ceiling Height
The ceiling height of your steam shower should be at least seven feet, or it can go as high as eight feet. If your bathroom ceiling is higher than the maximum ceiling height or the room has a vaulted design, you may need a more powerful steam generator to fill your shower space.
